Description:

The Role

We are looking for a talented Sr Cloud Platform Engineer interested in growing their career in a small engineering team with big goals. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable handling multiple issues at a time from different teams requiring context switching between established and newer technologies. Being able to think on your feet while seeing the near-, mid- and long-term impact of your decisions is a must for successful candidates. You may find yourself juggling net new reference architecture builds in AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), Azure Blueprints or GCP Deployment Manager, writing Identity and Access Manager (IAM) policies, building GitHub Actions (GHA) workflows, instrumenting net new code bases, deploying Cloud Custodian policies, remediating security incidents, teaching developers about AWS, GCP or Azure or working with and managing external vendors to implement net new technologies. When things get hard, the successful candidate will know when to delegate to other team members, be able to automate workflows with ease to scale themselves, when to ask for help and when to say “No.” We act as One Team pushing each other towards a better tomorrow for our Sixth Street Technology Platform.

Core Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates strong software skills. We don’t just write scripts, code via Google or “monkey patch.” We strive to code towards the IEEE “-ilities” and think the world would be better if others did too. We embrace the intentions behind the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) and look for ways to build secure systems by default. Successful candidates can easily switch between various *nix shell syntaxes, the Command Line Interface (CLI) on Windows and GNU/Linux, debug Python 2.x and 3.x, and understand JavaScript among other languages.

  • Makes the cloud look easy. We don’t look at the Cloud as hype but rather a market differentiator. Our investors expect the best! And the finance sector needs better products. We’re building that future in the Cloud in our firm. The successful candidate needs to know AWS in and out, understand GCP and Azure, while also understanding the Cloud is not just a fractional lease data center but an Application Programming Interface (API) atop physical and real-world components we instrument to make technology look like magic.

  •  Collaborates and interacts. Our Engineering is a small group, supporting everything large enterprise departments support with a fraction of the team. We can only function this way when team members document, build, share and understand when to push their ideas and when to build with ideas from other team members. We are leveraging everything from traditional Windows workflows to modern containerized solutions. Building scalable, highly available, secure and fault tolerant architectures on AWS using CDK and deploying them via GitHub Actions will be a must but so is being able to debug traditional server-oriented software, networking, and access patterns on Windows Servers.
  • Questions, Learns and Educates. We constantly ask “Why?” Some organizations claim to do this, but we live it every day. If we don’t know “Why?” we find out! Then, once we know, we document that new knowledge and share it. A successful candidate will work in Atlassian Jira, document their findings in Atlassian Confluence and use tools like GitHub, Zoom, Artifactory and other tools in our repertoire. Certifications and degrees are just as important as a bias for action coupled with experience and knowledge.
